A skilled proofreader understands it's mandatory that the spoken record must be kept accurate despite grammatical flaws; yet it must read clean and be free from typographical errors.

My goal as your proofreader is to help you produce your best transcript copy. I check for errors, clarity, and readability while being attentive to your style preferences.

What gets checked includes:

  • Punctuation
  • Capitalization (names, titles, and references)

  • Spelling (including names, brands, and medications)

  • Words (transposed, homophones, missing, and repeated)

  • Numbers (correct expression)

  • Formatting (proper alignment; correct spacing between lines and words)

  • Q’s and A’s; bylines

  • Consistency (names, dates, terms, and style; cross-reference exhibits and index page)

  • Context (flagging phrases that read weird)

Rates

  • Standard: 2 business days (48 hours) $0.45 per page

  • Rush: (less than 48 hours) $0.60 per page

  • Expedite: (less than 24 hours) $0.80 per page

Rates are based on transcripts with up to 25 lines per page. Additional lines are calculated to reflect the 25-line page rate.

Rate quotes are for thoroughly scoped copy. Transcripts with 70 percent or more corrected pages may be subject to an additional $0.10 per page; 90 percent or more pages returned are subject to an additional $0.15 per page. I will notify you when these determinations are made.

Method

Transcripts are proofread in PDF with annotations made directly on the document. This allows me to work with you regardless of the software used and for you to make the final call in applying corrections. Please use the latest version of Adobe Acrobat to ensure all corrections are indicated.

I offer a brief consultation to get to know your style and concerns. You may also fill out a preference sheet and provide a final transcript so I can get to know your preferences better. My resources include Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters, Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, and The Gregg Reference Manual.

Guidelines

  • Standard jobs submitted after Friday 8 p.m. EST will clock in Sunday 8 p.m. EST. Jobs required during holidays and weekends are subject to rush rates.

  • Turnaround begins from the timestamp of the email when the file is submitted. I will confirm with you when the job is received. Please note: I’m based in Portugal (five hours ahead of Eastern time); so I may not always be able to confirm jobs after 6 p.m. EST. Clients are more than welcome to send jobs overnight, and I will confirm in my morning.

  • Please notify me when you’ve received a rush job or if you are working on a long transcript (200+ pages) to make sure I can accommodate you. Sending the transcript in pieces as it is completed is appreciated and can possibly lower your rate depending on when files are received.

Any questions or interested in testing my skills? Get in touch! I'm available for a consultation if you'd like to see if we're a good fit.
